Home is where the heart is...

Finally home as of Friday. It was nice to spend Easter with family. I am struggling with a lot of the mundane tasks of everyday living, but things are getting better, and it is so much nicer to struggle with them at home. I owe so many of you a great deal of gratitude. I will get back to that later. Thanks to all. kh

Day 104. Almost there!!

Ken is doing very well with physical therapy. We are just about positive that he will be coming home on Friday. We are very excited to get him back!! He has another CT on Saturday to look and see how well his lungs have healed over the last few weeks. We will update you on the results. Ken also hopes to go to his Mom and Dad's for Easter, and I think he will really enjoy this. He spent Christmas, New Years, Valentines Day, and St. Patricks Day(also Keaton's 4th birthday) being sick. We are ready for a happy healthy Easter. We hope you and yours also have a very Happy Easter.

Day 94. Up and walking!!!

Well, Our Lady of Lourdes is a good place. Ken says they do a pretty good job with therapy, etc. He has been walking short distances with help. His main goal now is for endurance. He also has a goal of coming home by Easter. He will have to work pretty hard to reach it, but he is determined. Respiratory says he may have to come home on oxygen for a while, but we are willing to deal with it!! Well, things are going well for now. Rehab...for good.

Well, Ken is going to move to Our Lady of Lourdes rehab hospital today. The Dr.'s think this will be a better fit for Ken, since it is closer to Wesley, and they may not be so nervous about Ken's occasional shortness of breath. The steroids he had seem to have made a big difference! The first day we were at Wesley, they stood him at the side of the bed, and it was very difficult for Ken. Yesterday, he walked up and down the hallway with help, and he did fine!! Hopefully this is just the boost he needed to get him going in the right direction. Thanks for being a part of our lives, we love and miss you all!!

We had some laughs!!

Ken does not have anything more serious wrong, whew! He is just taking a long time to heal, and I don't think we realized it would be so slow a process. The pulmonologist is going to give Ken another round of steroids to see if it helps speed his healing a bit. He will probably move again soon, but we are not sure where yet. He was able to stand with help both Fri., and Sat., so this is some progress!
His brother, sister, sister-in-law, brother-in-law, and I tried to make it a Saturday night last night. We played a game and had snacks, laughs, and a lot of fun. I think he really got some good laughs out, which is good for the soul. We thank you all for your continued care, love, and prayers. Love, K and K.

I am writing today with a bit of a sad heart...

Well, first I apologize for not writing as often as I used too. Life with four kids can get a little hectic, and it's difficult to get down to the computer. I heard that some classes check the blog every day, so I will at least try to put a small note in more often.
Ken was moved to Wesley Rehab Hospital on Monday, March 16th. Today, the 17th, the staff there were concerned that he may not have been ready for this step. His oxygen saturation was dropping significantly with activity, and his breathing was also quite labored. His Dr. decided to move him back to Wesley MICU to make sure there is nothing else going on with his health that could be delaying his progress. They expect him to only spend a short time there and then go back to Select Specialty Hospital or a place that is similar to it. We hope this will only delay his recovery by a week or two, but we should know more later.
Ken and I feel discouraged by this whole mess, but we are trying to keep positive. We deeply miss each other, and our life together as a family. Pray for Ken to have peace in his heart so that he can heal quickly and return home. Thank you for staying a part of our lives and for all that you have done already. Love, K and K.

Wow...this is going to be harder than we thought. Day 66

Well, still resting, healing, trying to get stronger. Ken stood on his feet Monday for the first time, and he said he couldn't believe it was so hard. It will no doubt be a long road to walking. He is still at Select Specialty hospital. He has been off the ventilator for two days in a row now, and not having too much trouble. We hope he will be going to Wesley Rehab sometime in the next two weeks. Until then, he still welcomes visitors, and has his own room(so far). Thank you so much for all you have done, Kelly.
